Hi:

Is there any way to print a Framemaker document or book such that
markers (frex, Index or Cross-Reference markers) are displayed in the
printed output?

I'm not talking about registration marks, I'm talking about Frame's
internal markers.

Thanks,

Ashton

You can generate a list of markers (Special > List Of > Markers)
but I don't know an easy way to include them in formatted output.

If you save as MIF, markers are interspersed with text, like so:

<Marker
<MType 2>
<MTypeName `Index'>
<MText `YourIndexedTerm'>
<MCurrPage `528'>
<Unique 1019248>

Not sure if you like the idea, but you could execute a find and change
on markers and replace them with a symbol or some text for your
printout. You can specify the name of markers for handling them
selectively or change all markers at once.

I found no way how to keep the markers and add some visible text. The
markers will be gone, thus you'd have to create a duplicate of your
document before replacing.

If you actaully want to see the marker text *in line* in your body text
and print it that way (and don't mind the pagination change), you could
use the Expand Markers function of the IXgen toolset. This IXgen function
will elevate the marker text into the body text flow. This is handy for
editing, but you can certainly print a document while the markers are in
this state. (You can also alter the character tag IXgen assigns to
elevated marker text to get the best visuals for your needs.)

When done, use the "Collapse Markers" function to return the marker text
back to the source markers.

Hi, Frank:

That's close to what we want, but we were hoping for the markers
instead of the marker text.

Thanks for your help, though: we use IXGen here and love it.
