Discussion:
Dissimilar Page Sizes - FM 7.0 - Structured to PDFs

Knowing this is probably a repeatedly asked Q:

Is there any sane way to produce PDFs (with functional links) from FM
7.0 that have differing page sizes (most are 8 x 11, but some foldout
sheets are 11 x 17s).

The only way I've been able to do it, thus far (FM newbie) is to create
two different books (and corresponding PDFs) in both sizes, then
'stitch' them together in Acrobat. Is there a better, smarter way?

Is this a dumb newbie issue or a FM issue? Is it something I can do in
FM 7.2 and not in 7.0?

Any / all replies appreciated. Email me at (replace space-DOT-space)

Not frequently... there is an article on hostingforum.ca about it.
Search for "framemaker dissimilar page size".

It says to create a separate file for the 11x17 and assemble them
with your bookfile.

I doubt there is any difference there... FM doesn't change much anymore.

Thanks for all who helped. The answer we are currently using is to:

a.) Set the Printer Setting to 'Adobe PDF' with 'Tabloid' and
'Landscape' selected, then,

b.) 'Print Book' generating a .PS file for the entire book with
'Generate Acrobat Data' checked,

c.) Using Distiller to produce the PDF with the page sizing in
Distiller set to be as large as the largest page in the book.

This works - All link functionality works, all pages including
schematics and foldouts display properly in the PDF.

Thanks for following up, Bob.

Did you put the large 11x17 page in a separate file?
And connect the text flows? (Or did that happen automatically?)

If not, how did you create one page larger than the others?
I could not do that inside one Frame chapter.

Bill,

Previously, I was going through this convoluted process of creating two
copies of our books, generating an 8 x 11 version of the book to PDF,
then an 11 x 17 book PDF, then stitching them together in Acrobat
(inserting the 11 x 17 PDF into the other and deleting the 8 x 11
pages).

Doing it as described below (the 11 x 17 sections were contained to
specific 'schematic' or 'fold-out' .FM files), allows us to simply
generate one .PS file for the whole book (while retaining the Acrobat
data - which I presume keeps all of the cross-reference links), then
using Distiller to make the PDF (the default page size in Distiller has
to be as large, or larger than the largest page size).

Works fine. We did not have to do anything with text flows or any other
adjustments.
