Discussion:
Invisible change bars

I've just been handed a set of FM7 files to update, and I have a weird
problem: the documents won't display change bars! There's lots of
characters with the change bar attribute (previous writers must have
done a lot of editing with auto-change-bar turned on), but they don't
display -- unless I copy the text into a new document!

My guess is that there's something about the body pages, which are
pretty complicated. Any suggestions?

The first thing to check is the change bar properties
(Format > Text > change bars, or something like that).
The bars could have zero width or white color.

And the first thing I thought of. But that's not it.

My next idea is to check whether the text of the document
originated from MS Word. Somehow, text from Word can have
"track changes" attributes (or similar) applied that
simply won't behave correctly after import into FM.

You may need to copy/paste all contents into a new, empty
file based on the same template, or even paste all text
without formatting and reapply all formats afterwards.
