Cross reference markers?

I'm a newbie to FM. I'm using FM 7.0. Sorry if this is a basic
question.

It used to automatically include cross reference markers whenever I
added
a new Figure or Chapter. I have View->Text Symbols on, so I can see the
markers. However, something has changed. It no longer includes a cross
reference marker whenever I add a new Figure or Chapter. How do I
change
this behavior?

FM has never added cross-ref markers automatically when a paragraph
is added. You must have mistaken this for something else, or you
have had a plugin or FDK client running.

There's no need to add cross-ref markers until a cross-reference
actually is made to the paragraph. Then FM automatically adds a
marker, unless one is already present.
